Mercure Tallinn

Stayed in January and February 2025, each time 1 night, paid 89€, which is the average rate for that time, including breakfast; rates can vary a lot depending on the time of the year, I booked a Standard Room and was upgraded due to my Gold Status to a Superior Room

Location

The Mercure Tallinn is located just 700 meters away from the airport. You can easily walk to the hotel within 10 to 15 minutes. The location is very convenient, if you have a late arrival or a very early departure, as in both situations you can easily walk to the hotel. Near the hotel, you can find a large shopping centre and supermarket, where you can buy food and drinks.

You can find a bus stop at the front of the hotel on the main road. From there you can take the bus towards the city, which takes only 10 to 15 minutes. If you need to catch a train, you can easily take bus number 2 from Lindakivi to Balti jaam (train station).

Check-In/Out and staff

The check-in was quick and friendly. I was welcomed and asked how I would like to pay, and the staff member mentioned my upgrade and on which floor my room would be located. Overall, the check-in procedure was very efficient, and I reached my room within no time. The staff members are always there and available if you need anything or have any requests for additional items like a dental or shaving kit. The check-out procedure the next day was similar to my arrival. The staff member was friendly and asked if I had anything from the minibar and how my stay was.

Room and Wi-Fi

I booked a Standard Room and was upgraded to a Superior Room. The room was large enough, with a big work desk, a TV and one bottle of complimentary water(0.7 l), as well as a small glass of honey and some sweets as Welcome Gift for Gold Members. Within the room, there is a fridge with a minibar, as well as tea and coffee with glasses, cups and a bottle opener. If you book a Privilege or Superior Room, you will also have a Krups Espresso Machine with capsules, a bathrobe and slippers. The TV only offers 5-6 channels, which are all in the local language. For an airport hotel, this could be improved by providing at least one or two international channels.

The bed was soft and comfortable, and it was possible to sleep well. There were two large and two smaller pillows on the bed provided. It is possible to regulate the temperature of the room. However, the room still felt a bit old, even when the heating was on. The acoustic insulation of the windows is average, and you can still hear noise from outside. For an airport hotel, this could be better, but overall it was not too noisy. The Wi-FI connection is good and stable, even on the higher floors. The speed was around 20 MB/s, which is enough to do some work and watch videos. Of course, considering that this is an airport and business hotel, it could be faster.

Bathroom and Amenities

Some rooms do have a walk-in shower, while others have an older bathtub with a shower which can be high to enter. The bathroom itself is clean but feels a bit dated. There are only basic amenities provided, like a shower cap, a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The Superior and Privilege Rooms provide bathrobes and slippers as well. If you require anything like a dental kit, sewing kit or shaving kit, it is always possible to request that at the reception.  The water pressure and temperature for the shower were good.

Food and Beverage

The Mercure Tallinn offers a restaurant serving breakfast and dinner and a lobby bar. Breakfast is served between 06:30-10:30 during the week and 06:30-11:00 on weekends. If not included in your rate, breakfast costs an additional 15 €. I do not think it’s worth paying the extra price; there are plenty of options at the airport as the breakfast is fairly basic.

It offers coffee, some bread choices, pastries, hot dishes (several to choose from with decent quality), a different selection of cereal, milk, yoghurt, cold cuts and cheese, marmalade, honey and a fruit salad. Overall I found the breakfast decent quality, but too simple and more choices could be offered. I would compare the rates and how much the difference is for the rate that includes breakfast. It can make sense for groups or families with children to book a rate with breakfast or if you have a long day of travel.

Rating 7.0/10

The Mercure Tallinn offers a good option near the airport if you have a very early departure or late arrival. You can easily walk to the airport. It would recommended to always compare the rates, especially during the high season. The price can go up a lot, and you might consider other options in the city. Some rooms do have older bathrooms with a bathtub. This might be inconvenient for some people. For an airport hotel, the soundproofing is rather poor. You can hear the noises from outside. This might be inconvenient if you have to stay a lot in the room to do work. Also the temperature in the room was too cold during winter time, even if you regulate the heating. Otherwise, the hotel staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and the Mercure Tallinn is a solid choice near the airport.
